The Council constitutes the governing body of the City with all governmental, corporate, and proprietary powers of the City of Hialeah Gardens. The Council has the power to pass ordinances, resolutions, and to adopt regulations to enable it to conduct municipal government, perform municipal functions, and to render municipal services.
The City Council is the legislative and governing body of the City. The Council approves the City's yearly budget and, therein, all major expenditures of the City. Each member of the City Council may appoint to any board or committee one (1) member, who is a registered voter of the City of Hialeah Gardens, or is the proprietor of an established business in the City of Hialeah Gardens, to serve at the discretion of the Council without compensation, with such duties as provided by resolution as the Council may deem necessary.
The City Council elects by majority vote from within itself a Chairperson, a Vice-Chairperson, and a Financial Director, at the organizational meeting following each election.
