The Legal Department provides legal services to the Mayor and City Council, City Departments, Boards and Committees by advising the elected and appointed officers in all matters relating to their official powers, duties and responsibilities and by enforcing the provisions of the City Charter and Code.
The attorneys are responsible for representing and defending the City and its officials in all civil actions as well as advising personnel as to their legal duties, compliance with the law and all other matters pertaining to the preservation of the City’s legal interests.
The attorneys provide legal advice at Council, Board and Committee meetings, perform legal research and offer advisory opinions. The Department also responds to requests from the Mayor, Council and City staff to draft or review contracts, ordinances, resolutions and other legal documents.
